All UFFC-S Awards Now Open - Nominate Your Colleagues!

IEEE UFFC-S Awards
Nominations Due: 15 January 2023

Nominations Deadline Extended: 15 March 2023

The UFFC-S Awards Committee is calling for nominations for two UFFC Society–wide Awards the UFFC Achievement Award and the UFFC Distinguished Service Award. While nominations may be submitted at any time, the deadline for the 2022 nominations is 15 January 2023.  Details for both awards may be found below. 

UFFC-S Achievement Award

The Achievement Award is the highest Society-wide award presented to any past or current IEEE and UFFC-S member in special recognition of outstanding contributions. Selection criteria include significant technical publications in the field of ultrasonics, ferroelectrics, or frequency control, as well as contributions to these technical fields, and service to the Society. Selection is made by the Awards Committee from nominations submitted by the general membership. Presentation is annually at one of the Society's major symposia. 

The award consists of an honorarium of $2,000, a plaque, and a certificate. The Achievement Award was first presented in 1980.

UFFC-S Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes long-term support of the Society's activities by any past or current IEEE and UFFC-S member. Recognition is given to those who innovate new Society programs, administer major Committees, manage Society functions, or promote the Society's areas of technical interest to the larger community. The recipient usually has served for many years with sustained participation in the Society's management. Selection is made by the Awards Committee from nominations submitted by the general membership. Presentation is annually at one of the Society's major symposia.

The award consists of an honorarium of $2,000, a plaque, and a certificate. The first award was presented in 1997.

Frequency Control Awards 
Nominations Due: 11 January 2023

Nominations Deadline Extended: 21 January 2023

During IFCS, awards will be conferred to three distinguished individuals in the field of frequency control. Nominations are welcome from anyone and should be submitted through the proper nomination form located on the UFFC-S website. No nominations will be accepted via email. 

IEEE UFFC-S Frequency Control Awards:

Award Rules:

  • Self-nomination is permitted for each of the IFCS Awards.
  • There is no limit to the number of successive annual nominations an individual may receive.
  • Previous IFCS Awardees may be nominated for one of the other awards in succeeding years.
  • The nomination of a group whose work is highly related to the citation given in the nomination is permitted for each of the IFCS Awards.
  • Double nomination, that is an individual nominating two different people for the same award in the same IFCS Awards Call year, is not permitted.
  • An individual can only be considered for one of the IFCS Awards in any IFCS Awards Call year.
  • If an individual self-nominates for one award, they may nonetheless nominate another individual for a different award. However, they cannot nominate an individual for the same award that they have self-nominated

Each written nomination must identify the award, the nominator, and include the following:

  1. A proposed citation for the nominee using a single sentence.
  2. The current address (regular and e-mail) of the nominee and nominator.
  3. The nominator’s justification for the award, describing the nominee’s accomplishments (for example initiative, ingenuity, creativity, quality, and degree of success, etc.), and their importance to the frequency control community. This justification should not exceed 300 words.
  4. Letters of recommendation may accompany the nomination form (or be sent separately). These are a suggested addition, but not a prerequisite for the nomination.

Ferroelectrics Awards
Nominations Due: 11 January 2023

The Ferroelectrics Awards committee of the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control (UFFC) Society asks for your help in identifying and nominating outstanding individuals for annual awards offered by the Society: 

Descriptions of the awards and criteria for eligibility are available on the IEEE UFFC-S Ferroelectrics Awards website. Awards will be announced during the ISAF meeting in Cleveland, Ohio, USA to be held on 23rd July 2023. Award recipients will be expected to attend the ISAF meeting to receive the award. For all awards, membership of IEEE UFFC-S at the time of the award is a strict requirement. Nominations for all awards are due no later than 11 January 2023 and should be submitted via the nomination form on the UFFC-S website. No emailed nominations will be accepted. Please feel free to disseminate this information to others in the broader ferroelectrics community. Active collaboration between the nominator and the nominee in the preparation of the nomination package is encouraged. Self-nomination is permitted. No supplemental materials will be considered.

Ultrasonics Awards 
Nominations Due: 1 March 2023

The Ultrasonics Awards Committee of the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control (UFFC) Society asks for your help in identifying and nominating individuals who have main remarkable contributions in the field of ultrasonics for the following awards: 

The Rayleigh Award represents the highest honor for achievement within the  IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control (UFFC) Society in the field of Ultrasonics. The achievement may be in technical innovations, research, education, publications, and related professional endeavors. The candidate should have demonstrated sustained accomplishments in the field of Ultrasonics for more than 25 calendar years prior to the year of nomination.

The nominator is responsible for submitting the Rayleigh Award Nomination Package by following the guidance provided in the UFFC Society webpages, inclusive of the following items:

  • A two-page nomination letter on how the nominee has impacted the field of ultrasonics and created new opportunities for academic inquiry and/or commercial success.
  • A professional resume including a picture, list of publications, a citation report, list of patents, or other supporting documents (maximum 30 pages).
  • Two-four letters of recommendation (maximum 2 pages each) in addition to the nominator’s letter.
  • One nominator can nominate only one candidate.
  • One endorser can endorse only one candidate (provide a recommendation letter for one candidate).

For the Early Career Award, awardees are required to be individuals who meet the following criteria: IEEE member, UFFC Society member, 1 to 10 years of research after obtaining the highest degree (Bachelor; Master; Ph.D.), Remarkable contributions to the field/publication record Members of the UFFC Society Ultrasonics Committee are ineligible for consideration for this award during their term of service on this committee.

For the Hertz Award, awardees are required to be individuals who meet the following criteria: IEEE member, UFFC Society member, Mid-career – defined as no less than 10 years and no more than 25 years of research after obtaining the highest degree (Bachelor; Master; Ph.D.) Remarkable contributions to the field resulting in measurable innovation and impact Members of the UFFC Society Ultrasonics Committee are ineligible for consideration for this award during their term of service on this committee.

For the Early Career Award and Carl Hellmuth Hertz Award, the nominator is responsible for submitting no more than a two-page nomination letter and a two-page resume.
