Bernhard R. Tittmann has 40+ years of experience in materials characterization with acoustics/ultrasound. From 1966 to 1989 was at the Rockwell International Science Center. Then he joined the Engineering Science and Mechanics Department at Penn State as Chaired Full Professor where in 1995 he established a Center for Engineering Nano Characterization. Professor Tittmann's research interests focus on the fundamentals of physical acoustics, ultrasonic imaging, and acoustic microscopy. Most recently his group has pioneered high temperature leave-in-place ultrasonic transducers for high temperature applications. He has contributed to several books, published more than 450 scientific papers, and holds 6 patents.
