WIE Event on Adaptive Leadership at ISAF 2017
The IEEE UFFC Women In Engineering (WIE) hosted an event at the International Symposium on the Applications of Ferroelectrics (ISAF) on May 10th, 2017 on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. The event was highlighted by a presentation from Bob Thomas, from Georgia Tech’s Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship. The focus of the presentation was ‘Adaptive Leadership,’ which is a theory that enhances the ability of individuals and organizations to address complex leadership challenges. Prior to the workshop attendees were provided a homework assignment, where they were asked to summarize a current, unresolved, complex leadership challenge or dilemma. After the presentation, five of the attendees offered to share their dilemmas to breakout groups where some of the techniques presented were utilized to help find ways to a solution. The primary goals of the workshop were to:
- Provide participants with a basic understanding of the Adaptive Leadership model.
- Enhance participants’ skills in applying the model to their leadership challenges.
- Build and strengthen community among participants.
There were approximately 40 attendees and lunch was provided. The event was financially supported by the IEEE UFFC-S.
