Student Social Event IUS 2022
The Student Social event was organized on Monday, October 10, 19:00-20:00 CEST during the 2022 International Ultrasonics Symposium as an in-person event. After two years of virtual conferences due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event provided student attendees with an opportunity to meet and get to know their peers in a fun and casual setting on the first day. Several round tables (10 people per table) with snacks and drinks were provided to make it a more convenient and friendly atmosphere for the attendees.

At the start of the event, the IEEE UFFC-S Ultrasonics Student Representatives welcomed all the students and asked them to take a seat at a random table and were then presented with on-screen icebreaker questions to get the event started. Post this, a human bingo game was played with a sheet containing several questions (as shown below) provided to each student to get the conversations going. Students were encouraged to rotate tables every 15 minutes for a chance to meet others and make new friends.
Student Social Event Participants
Overall, the event feedback was extremely positive, with all survey respondents indicating that this type of event should be offered in future conferences. One attendee noted: “It is a very nice and effective way to communicate and interact with fellow researchers in an informal environment setting.” Another commented: “It was a lot of fun! I liked the bingo game a lot”.
