Search for Editor-in-Chief and Editor-in-Chief Elect for UFFC-S Journals
The Publications Committee for the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control (UFFC) Society, is undertaking a search for two separate Editors-in-Chief (EiC) related roles:
- An EiC Elect for the Transactions on UFFC who will work with the existing Editor in Chief for at least one year transition period while learning the role. The intent would be for the EiC Elect to take over from the EiC after retirement from the position.
- An EiC for a NEW Open Access society publication, IEEE Open Journal of UFFC.
The Transactions publishes approximately 250 papers annually in all areas of interest to the society, serving a diverse and truly world-wide community of scientists and engineers.
The official term of appointment for both positions will start in early 2021. At the time of appointment, the successful applicant must be a member in good standing of IEEE and the UFFC-S. S/he must have served as an associate editor or in a management capacity for an archival journal. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate the scientific vision needed for advancing the world's leading comprehensive technical journal, the editorial experience to raise the journal's intellectual quality, innovation, and impact, as well as the management skills to be responsive to the evolutions of the community which demands both timeliness and review quality. A strong interest and understanding of the day-to-day management of a journal are critical to success.
The full EiC positions are for three-year terms and renewable for an additional three years. The duties include the identification of associate editors to serve across the scope of the journal; management of the day-to-day operations through Manuscript Central with the assistance of publications staff; monitoring of quality and timeliness of publications; identification of areas that require strengthening; train an EiC Elect; and working with the UFFC Society and their technical committees to achieve these goals.
The Editor-in-Chief reports to the Publications Committee. S/he chairs the Editorial Board for the journal and meets at least annually with the Publications Committee. The Editor-in-Chief is expected to actively and regularly contribute to decisions about publication policies and priorities. Desirable qualities are: solid technical accomplishments, leadership, integrity and ethical standards, organizational and management skills, and eagerness to continue to move the journal forward to higher levels of accomplishment. A statement of support from the candidate's home institution is welcome.
