This year, the IEEE conference dedicated to ferroelectrics (ISAF – International Symposium on the Applications of Ferroelectrics) will be organized in Hiroshima, Japan, as a Joint Conference with the FMA (Meeting on Ferroelectric Materials and their Applications), the Piezoresponse Force Microscopy (PFM) Workshop, and two Asian Meetings on Ferroelectricity and Electroceramics (AMF and AMEC, respectively). The Joint Conference is named IFAAP 2018 (ISAF-FMA-AMF-AMEC-PFM).

IFAAP 2018 will be held at the International Conference Center at Hiroshima, Japan from May 27 to June 1, 2018. This is the first joint conference between IEEE-ISAF, AMF and AMEC, and aims to bring together leaders from academia, national laboratories and industrial research and development sectors with increased participation of Asian players. The goal is to discuss the most recent advancements in the science and technology of ferroelectric and dielectric materials, spanning a broad range of topics from the theory and modeling of the materials, to processing and characterization thereof, as well as development of new applications and devices. More than 1000 presentations will be given by researchers from all over the world.

For the many  IEEE-UFFC members who have submitted abstracts and others that may be planning to come to Hiroshima for the IFAAP, here are the main facts and figures concerning this exciting upcoming conference event:

Student Poster Competition / Student Poster Award

A "Student Poster Award" will be given to outstanding poster presentations. About 16 students will be awarded with three different prize types such as "Gold", "Silver" and "Bronze", accompanied with a "Certificate" and other "Special Rewards". In addition, winners will be invited to the banquet party.

Photo/Illustration Competition

All IFAAP participants, especially students and post-docs, are welcome to join the Photo/Illustration Competition. The winners will be invited to the banquet party and receive an award. Everybody is encouraged to submit photos or illustrations, keeping in mind that the submitted works will be evaluated based on a “sense of humor” rather than scientific importance. For example, refer to the winners of the past IEEE-ISAF conferences.  It is widely expected that the award ceremony will be very funny!
