This year the International Frequency Control Symposium was a joint conference with EFTF and was held in Besancon France. It was a very successful conference which included a Women in Engineering (WIE) luncheon held on Monday, July 10th. This year the WIE event featured a workshop titled “Confidence Throughout Our Careers” animated by Jody Julien, founder of J2 Coaching & Consulting.
The workshop was very informative and thought provoking, inspiring women to find their footing in their chosen career path while balancing assertiveness and confidence. Techniques were discussed and practiced concerning how to speak up and claim “your space” within a technical community and how to boost awareness of the value added by women in any given situation. Twenty-six women attended. Some were students - just entering the workforce in the next few months - others were already well-established in their careers.
This very enjoyable luncheon was sponsored by the IEEE UFFC-S. All attending fully enjoyed networking and exchanging experiences. While we come from all over the world, the community of Women in Engineering is really quite close knit and the things we learned from each other will be a value to us in the years to come.
Jody Julien was an excellent speaker and coach. She provided tools that can be used in many areas of life. Six women attending signed up for “one-on-one” counseling sessions with Jody Julien sometime in the near future. This year’s WIE event was a big success.
