2023 International Ultrasonics Symposium Recap
The 2023 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS) was held from 3-8 September 2023 in Montreal, Canada at the Palais des congrès de Montrèal. This was the 61st edition of the conference, bringing together thousands of attendees who participated and presented the latest research and technological advances in the field of ultrasonics, in person or virtually. There were more than 1200 presentations and 15 short courses in various topics, including medical ultrasonics, industrial ultrasonics, physical acoustics, microacoustics, and transducer design. The plenary talk “Deep Learning and the Challenge of Out-of-Distribution Generalization” was given by Professor Yoshua Bengiois who is recognized worldwide as one of the founding fathers of artificial intelligence. The technical program had three spotlight sessions which highlighted emerging topics: 1) Metamaterials and GHz Ultrasonics 2) Wearable Ultrasound and Distributed Sensors; 3) GHz and Integrated Acoustic Devices. Several exciting student events such as “Student Social”, “Student-Professional Networking”, and “Best Pitch Competition” increased the engagement of students. “Industry Start-up” and “Young Faculty Tips” events targeted young professionals. Winners of the “Student Paper Competition” were recognized during the Gala Dinner. Congratulations to all the winners and participants!
