Joint EFTF/IFCS 2021 Conference : July 7th-17th, 2021
The joint EFTF/IFCS 2021 Conference, similar to the IFCS/ISAF 2020 Conference last year, will have a fully online format taking place from July 7th to 17th, 2021. The tutorials will run from July 7th to 10th while the rest of the conference events will take place from July 11th to 17th.
Making the virtual environment more interactive
The conference organizers are employing a dual virtual environment to foster the higher degree of interaction that is characteristic of in-person conferences. The attendees will use the combined virtual platform of CONFLUX to access talks and Gather.town to engage with other attendees during Live Sessions, which will include plenaries, award ceremonies, posters and exhibit sessions. The Live Sessions will be spread over three broad time zones (North America, Europe, and Asia) for global accessibility.
An exciting technical program
While the Technical Program is being finalized, let’s take a quick look at what to expect at this year’s joint EFTF/IFCS 2021 Conference. The TPC members from EFTF and IFCS held a paper selection meeting online on April 30th to decide on the organization of sessions and finalize the list of invited speakers. Three plenary presentations will be given by distinguished speakers. Prof. Dana Anderson from the University of Colorado will speak about “Quantum in the Kitchen”. Dr. Masaki Hori from Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics will explain “Exploring Fundamental Physics by Laser Spectroscopy of Antiprotonic and Pionic Helium Atoms”. Prof. Luciano Iess from the Università di Roma will present “Time and Frequency in Deep Space Navigation, Planetary Geodesy, and Solar System Dynamics.”
Tutorial sessions
There will be 8 exciting tutorial sessions covering domains from atomic clocks to phase noise to time scales and more. Prerecorded videos of the tutorials, 1.5 to 2 hours in duration, will be presented in a series of parallel live sessions with the tutorial speakers between July 7th-10th at 4 PM CET/2 PM UTC. During these sessions the tutorials will be played and the speakers will be available for answering questions via chat. Following the showing of each tutorial video, a 30-minute live question and answer (Q&A) session will be held with the tutorial speaker. The live Q&A sessions will be recorded and will be available on the conference website along with the prerecorded tutorials through the end of July. Attendees who register for the tutorials will have access to all of the tutorial materials.
