New UFFC-S Student Representatives for 2021

Introducing the new UFFC-S Student Representative Advisor and the new UFFC-S Student Representatives who will be serving in 2021 and 2022. Each year, up to three PhD students are appointed to the role of Student Representative by the UFFC-S President. During their two-year term, these students help plan student events at symposia, actively participate in AdCom meetings, and bring their fresh perspectives to student outreach.

Student Representative Advisor

[caption id="attachment_7884" align="aligncenter" width="208"] Andreja Erbes, Student Representative Advisor[/caption] Andreja Erbes, Student Representative Advisor Andreja Erbes received the M.Eng., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, in 2011, 2014, and 2015, respectively. In 2009, he spent one year abroad at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge-MIT Exchange Program) and took part in an undergraduate-research opportunity program with the Weinstein HybridMEMS Group, where he was involved in the field of Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS). In 2015, he joined Huawei Technologies where he is now leading the MEMS Development Platform team for RF and sensor/actuator solutions. His research interests include the design of MEMS resonators and CMOS circuits for low power wireless communications, timing applications, and electrical interfacing of MEMS-based sensors.

New UFFC-S Student Representatives

[caption id="attachment_7885" align="aligncenter" width="202"] Maryam Basij, Junior Student Representative, Ultrasonics[/caption] Maryam Basij, Junior Student Representative, Ultrasonics Maryam Basij received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in biomedical engineering from Isfahan University, Isfahan, Iran in 2008 and 2012, respectively. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. program in Biomedical Engineering with Functional and Molecular Ultrasound Research Laboratory, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA, focusing on the development of combined medical imaging technologies for advanced screening, diagnostics, and therapeutics. She has worked on a variety of biomedical imaging techniques such as IVUS, breast MRI, karyotype images as well as other areas of research such as nanotechnology. [caption id="attachment_7887" align="aligncenter" width="202"] Federica Benes, Junior Student Representative, Ferroelectrics[/caption] Federica Benes, Junior Student Representative, Ferroelectrics Federica is a PhD student in the team of Dr Marco Deluca at the Materials Center Leoben, Austria. She attended the University of Trieste in Italy, where she obtained her Bachelor´s and Master´s degree in Chemistry. After an internship at CeramTec, Germany, she joined the ERC-funded CITRES project where her main focus is the sol-gel synthesis and deposition of lead-free ferroelectric thin-films for energy storage purposes. [caption id="attachment_7886" align="aligncenter" width="202"] Etienne Batori, Junior Student Representative, Frequency Control[/caption] Etienne Batori, Junior Student Representative, Frequency Control Etienne has always wanted to study Physics, and did so in Switzerland. Today, he’s doing a PhD on compact cold atom clocks at the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. He has always tried to be involved in his community and has a strong interest on communication and teaching. Aside from research, his main interests are climbing (recently ice climbing), running and trekking. These new Student Representatives will join the current 2020–2021 Senior Student Representatives: Madeleine Hertel (Ultrasonics), Kerisha Williams (Ferroelectrics), and  Kai Yang (Frequency Control).
