Next ISAF conference (F2cΠ2 2019) approaching
The 2019 IEEE International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics (ISAF) is joined with the International Conference on Electroceramics (ICE), the European Meeting on Ferroelectricity (EMF), the International Workshop on PiezoMEMS (IWPM) and the Piezoresponse Force Microscopy Workshop (PFM). The title of the joint conference is F2cΠ2 2019. As we look forward to this event, here is some useful information that should help you make the most of your time at the conference.
Registration
Online registration is open ! In order to take advantage of early bird registration fees, attendees should register by May, 31st. The conference will be preceded by a day of tutorials, and a separate registration for those can be also made following the link provided above.
Program
Because it is a combined meeting of several societies and organizations, the program is comprehensive and dense. Ten plenary speakers will be delighting the audience with outstanding overviews on many different aspects on the science of ferroelectrics and electroceramics. Have a look at the list of their names and full biographies. In addition, over 130 invited speakers will enrich the program. Further highlights are the planned special sessions in honor of Vladimir Fridkin and about an emerging topic in ferroelectrics: HfO2.
Social Program
A whole afternoon during the conference (Wednesday, July 17th) will be dedicated to excursions. Many are planned to offer different “flavors” and costs. For those who choose not to attend any planned excursion, a relaxing, unforgettable summer afternoon can be spent in the beautiful city of Lausanne ! Other typical events of ISAF meetings will be also hosted, such as the Welcome Reception (Monday July 15th), a student evening (Tuesday July 16th), and the conference dinner (Thursday, July 18th). Noteworthy is the Speed Networking Pitch, which will be organized on Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm in Room 2BC of the Swiss Tech Convention Center. This event is an opportunity for students to present themselves to future employers and the research community. The first hour of this networking event will be composed of student pitches of 60 seconds in length (maximum of 40 student participants) followed by an informal networking session, with finger food and snacks provided. The prizes of the Student Speed Pitch competition will be awarded at the Conference Dinner on Thursday 18th. 
Venue and travel
The conference takes place at the Swiss Tech Convention Center, which is located on campus at EPFL (Route Louis-Favre 2, 1024 Ecublens, Switzerland). The city of Lausanne is very easily reachable by plane using nearby Geneva (GVA) airport. A train service (45 minutes ride) is available directly from the Geneva airport. Another possibility is to land in Zurich (ZRH), also connected to Lausanne by train (2.5 hours ride). Train schedules can be found here: http://lausanne2019.org/pages/travel-information. The easiest and least expensive way to reach EPFL from Lausanne train station is by Metro. By staying in a hotel in Lausanne, free and unrestricted access to Lausanne’s public transportation is granted by the Lausanne Transport Card.
