Description

I, Ivan (Vanya) Pelivanov, and my colleague, Matt O’Donnell in the (ultrasound) Washington Molecular Imaging and Therapy (uWAMIT) Center, Department of Bioengineering, University of Washington (UW) are looking for 2 (two) new post-doctoral fellows.
Our lab focuses on systems combining optical and acoustic waves in biomedical imaging and non-destructive testing (NDT), including:
(i) advanced US imaging,
(ii) photoacoustic (PA) imaging,
(iii) OCT, optical coherence elastography (OCE),
(iv) non-contact PA imaging,
(v) laser-ultrasonics and optical interferometry.
We have 3 (three) long-term awards from the NIH for new instruments and systems in these areas. The new post-doc(s) will be part of the research team on one or a few of these projects. We expect the position will last for two years, but like all grant-funded positions, formal appointments are from year to year.

Required skills:
- strong background in acoustics/optics,
- strong math skills, especially in wave theory, math physics, residue theory and in solving eigenvalue problems,
- strong skills in engineering programming and advanced computations: MATLAB, Pyton, Labview, C++,
- expertise in modeling: COMSOL, K-Wave and PZFlex (OnScale),
- experience in experimental biomedical ultrasound, acoustic, or optical imaging, including small animal studies.
Benefits:
- Seattle, one of the most beautiful places on Earth located in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, is surrounded by mountains from all sides and is close to four US National parks but is also a very sophisticated city with great opportunities for cultural experiences. It provides great outdoor opportunities in hiking, skiing, climbing, kayaking, bicycling, and sailing. The beautiful setting, strong research infrastructure at UW, and community commitment to building a diverse and equitable society is a great environment to have a fun and productive post-doctoral experience.
- If you are interested in imaging, we will find a project to fit your interests, be they at micro- or macroscales – we image everything from subcellular structures in biology to airplanes.
- Most post-docs easily find a job in industry or academia.
All interested candidates should contact us by e-mail, specifying their research areas of interest and attaching a current electronic copy of their CV/resumes.
