The IEEE Open Journal of Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control (OJ-UFFC) invites expressions of interest from UFFC Society members in good standing for definite-term appointment as Deputy Editors effective from Q1 of 2026 to December 31, 2028. IEEE OJ-UFFC will add two Deputy Editors to its Editorial Board, one in the technical area of Ferroelectrics and one in the technical area of Frequency Control, to support the Editor-in-Chief by stimulating manuscript submissions, planning special sections and assisting in the management of AEs in these technical areas.
Role Description
Deputy Editor is a new position established to engage more closely with the technical areas of Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control. The Deputy Editors are expected to:
• Solicit submissions to OJ-UFFC in their technical areas
• Organize special sections focusing on hot topics in their technical areas
• Uphold the ethical standards of the Journal by addressing potential conflicts of interest and investigating allegations of misconduct like plagiarism or data fabrication.
• Manage the review of submitted manuscripts in their technical areas by
o Evaluating initial submissions to determine if they are within the journal's scope.
o Assigning manuscripts to Associate Editors.
o Ensuring the timely and thorough review of papers.
o Reviewing the quality of feedback from Associate Editors and reviewers.
o Making recommendations for a decision on the manuscripts
Eligibility Criteria
Interested candidates should have at least 5 years of experience as full-time independent academic, industrial technical
specialist, or technical leader within a government organization. Regardless of their professional background, candidates are required to have a track record of contributions as a reviewer for OJ-UFFC and/or T-UFFC and other journals. Prior service on editorial boards of highly reputed journals is desired.

Expressions of interest should include the following in PDF format:
• Personal statement (maximum of 1 page), indicating which position is the application for and with emphasis on:
o The candidate’s professional qualifications and contributions to journal review/professional service
o Why the candidate is interested in serving
o An initiative/special section that the candidate plans to lead to promote OJ-UFFC
• Curriculum vitae (maximum of 10 pages)

Selection Criteria
Candidates will be reviewed by a selection committee comprising the OJ-UFFC Editor-in-Chief, VP Publications of the UFFC Society, and experienced Associate Editors who served in the editorial boards of UFFC journals. Selection will be done based on multiple criteria, including the candidate’s track record of contributions to UFFC journals, evidence of peer review quality, and the candidate’s demonstrated commitment to serving UFFC journals.
Selection Appointment Process
With the recommendation of the selection committee, the Editor-in-Chief will contact shortlisted candidates and arrange an
initial meeting with them in January 2026 to provide detailed information on the responsibilities, expectations, and guidelines of OJ-UFFC editorial work. Upon establishing mutual consensus on the service expectations, a formal appointment letter will be issued. OJ-UFFC Deputy appointments are renewable once for a second term of no longer than 3 years. Such renewal will be subjected to the editor’s track record of contributions to OJ-UFFC and the journal’s prevailing submission trends at the time of renewal.
