Sylvain Ballandras joined the CNRS in 1991, after his PhD in Engineering Sciences from the Université de Franche-Comté. He worked on SAW devices and on micro-machining, participated to a joint laboratory between Thomson Microsonics and CNRS. He joined this company from 1997 to 1998. He was promoted Research Director at the CNRS in 2003. In 2004, he created his consulting office. In 2006, he was involved in the creation of SENSeOR as scientific adviser from 2009 to 2012. In 2013, he created frec|n|sys, a company devoted to acoustic wave devices. The company was acquired by SOITEC in 2017 and integrated in 2023. Sylvain Ballandras is an IEEE-UFFC member. He was elected member of the IEEE UFFC AdCom for the period 2011-2014. He received the Cady award in 2022.
