Dr. Karla P. Mercado-Shekhar received a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering as a Provost’s Fellow from the University of Rochester in 2015. Dr. Mercado-Shekhar’s dissertation focused on high-frequency quantitative ultrasound imaging to characterize tissue-engineered constructs. Subsequently, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati until March 2019. Her work focused on developing ultrasound elasticity imaging to estimate the stiffness of clots to guide stroke treatment and on acoustic droplet vaporization for alleviating reperfusion injury. Dr. Mercado-Shekhar is currently an Assistant Professor in the Discipline of Biological Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar, where she leads the Medical Ultrasound Engineering (MUSE) Laboratory. Her current interests lie in biomedical ultrasound tissue characterization, elastography, quantitative ultrasound, and blood flow imaging.
