Description

To recognize the top paper in the IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control published in the past three years that best demonstrated multidisciplinary excellence in the field of ultrasonics, ferroelectrics, and frequency control.

Prize

$500 for each author, up to a maximum of $2,000 for an awarded paper with multiple authors. If there are more than 4 authors, the total prize of $2,000 will be equally shared between all authors. One plaque will be presented and a certificate will be issued to each of the co-authors.

Funding

Funded by the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society

Presentation

Presented aperiodically at one of the UFFC-S sponsored symposia (i.e., IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium, IEEE Symposium on Application of Ferroelectrics, or IEEE Frequency Control Symposium). The choice of symposium for presentation will be determined by the UFFC-S Awards Chair in agreement with the authors of the selected paper.

Historical Background

Established in 2023.

Basis for Judging

Selection will be based upon multiple criteria, including multidisciplinary novelty (i.e., how well the paper pushes beyond the conventional disciplinary boundaries and integrates two or more themes within the journal’s publishing scope), multidisciplinary significance (i.e., how well the paper can impact future research in all the integrated disciplines), scientific rigor, and writing quality. Citations and related bibliometrics will not be used as part of the evaluation criteria.

Eligibility

Authors of full-length multidisciplinary research papers published in the IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control in the past 3 calendar years are eligible. For example, for an award year Y, authors of full-length multidisciplinary research papers published in the years between Y-3 and Y-1 are eligible for consideration. The focus of consideration is on
full-length multidisciplinary research papers which, for the purpose of determining eligibility, will be prioritized as papers that span two or more topical themes of interest of the IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control‘s publishing scope, as listed in the journal’s webpages and year by year enumerated in the award’s page/information. Published papers with multidisciplinary contributions in areas outside the engineering domain (e.g., a medical ultrasonics paper that includes both methodological innovations and clinical translation) are also eligible. Review papers (including white papers and position papers), tutorial papers, and research letters are not eligible. It is not requested for authors of eligible papers to be members of IEEE and UFFC-S.
