Ultrasonics Awards at the 2019 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium

Three annual IEEE Ultrasonics awards were presented at the 2019 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium which was held in Glasgow, Scotland. The Awards Ceremony took place on October 7^th, 2019 at the Scottish Event Centre (SEC), followed by a reception at the Glasgow Science Centre. The Rayleigh Award represents the highest honor for achievement within the UFFC Society in the field of Ultrasonics. The achievement may be in technical innovations, research, education, publications, and related professional endeavors. The winner of the 2019 Rayleigh Award is Jørgen Arendt Jensen, Technical University of Denmark, “for pioneering developments and outstanding contributions to advances in ultrasound imaging”. Lewin and Jafar Saniie, Ultrasonics Awards Chair)[/caption]   The IEEE Carl Hellmuth Hertz Ultrasonics Award is intended to recognize the investigators for their outstanding mid-career achievements and for promoting the field of Ultrasonics. The winner of the 2019 Carl Helmuth Hertz Award is Jan D’hooge, KU Leuven, “for ground-breaking contributions to the field of echocardiography and ultrasound imaging technologies that impacted both fundamental research and clinical cardiology”. Laudation for Jan D’hooge was given by Mickael Tanter, ESPCI Paris. The award is specific to those researchers in the early stages of their career. The winner of the 2019 Early Career Investigator Award is Songbin Gong, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, “for pioneering lithium niobite Lamb wave micro-acoustic devices for radio-frequency applications”. Laudation for Songbin Gong was given by Benjamin P. Abbott, Skyworks Solutions, Inc.
