Ultrasonics Awards at the 2018 IEEE IUS
Three annual IEEE Ultrasonics awards were presented at the 2018 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium which was held in Kobe, Japan. Awards ceremony took place on October 24th, 2018 at the Portopia Hotel, followed by a concert and banquet.
Rayleigh Award
The Rayleigh Award represents the highest honor for achievement within the UFFC Society in the field of Ultrasonics. The achievement may be in technical innovations, research, education, publications, and related professional endeavors.
The winner of the 2018 Rayleigh Award is Charles A. Cain, University of Michigan,
“for substantial contributions to therapeutic ultrasound, invention and development of histotripsy”. Laudation for Charles A. Cain was given by Zhen Xu, University of Michigan.

IEEE Carl Hellmuth Hertz Ultrasonics Award
The IEEE Carl Hellmuth Hertz Ultrasonics Award is intended to recognize the investigators for their outstanding mid-career achievements and for promoting the field of Ultrasonics.
The winner of the 2018 Carl Helmuth Hertz Award is Elisa E. Konofagou, Columbia University,
“for contributions to the field of biomedical ultrasonic imaging, therapeutics, and advancing the field of elasticity imaging”. Laudation for Elisa E. Konofagou was given by Peter A. Lewin, Drexel University.

IEEE Ultrasonics Early Career Investigator Award
The IEEE Ultrasonics Early Career Investigator Award recognizes the achievements of a researcher in the area of Ultrasonics and its applications. The award is specific to those researchers in the early stages of their career.
The winner of the 2018 Early Career Investigator Award is Yun Jing, N.C. State University,
“for contributions to numerical modeling of wave propagation”. Laudation for Yun Jing was given by Xiaoning Jiang, N.C. State University.
