UFFC Society Report and Action Plan Accepted by IEEE TAB
The Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society (UFFC-S) is pleased to announce that the Society's comprehensive report and corresponding action plan, developed in response to feedback from the IEEE Society and Council Review Committee (SCRC), has been officially accepted by the IEEE Technical Activities Board (TAB).
This acceptance highlights UFFC-S's commitment to continuous improvement, strategic development, and operational excellence.

Key Highlights from the Review and Action Plan
1. Purpose, Strategy, and Operations
UFFC-S is enhancing its operational strategy by integrating detailed timelines and funding allocations into its strategic goals. The Society has also committed to formalizing the vetting process for interactions with non-IEEE entities, ensuring clarity and efficiency in collaborations.
2. Governance Updates
Following the SCRC recommendations, UFFC-S will streamline the bylaws concerning the Fellows Committee to align with IEEE’s evolving selection procedures. Additionally, new Fellow Nominations Committees for Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control are being established, ensuring balanced representation across technical areas.
3. Standards Development
Efforts are underway to ensure that all standards-related activities, especially those involving the IEEE Standards Association, are up to date and easily accessible on the Society’s website. Plans include raising awareness through tutorials and short courses at UFFC’s annual conferences.
4. Publications Enhancement
UFFC-S is actively refining its publications portfolio, focusing on:
Improving gender and geographic diversity within editorial boards.
Updating publication tables to reflect current journal statuses and financial data.
Aligning the scopes of journals to reduce internal competition and better serve members.
5. Educational Advancements
A major focus is the development of an operational plan aimed at improving gender balance among Distinguished Lecturers and expanding educational offerings. The Society is also working to improve access to educational resources by indexing content available in the CataVault platform and enhancing engagement on the UFFC YouTube channel.
6. Financial Strategy Improvements
UFFC-S plans to broaden the solicitation of proposed initiatives by encouraging input from Society Chapters and Affinity Groups. The Society will also implement mechanisms to prioritize impactful initiatives within its budgeting processes.
7. Membership Engagement
The Society is taking steps to enhance member engagement by coordinating events with student branches, technical meetings, and career opportunities. Incentives and awards for chapters and student branches are also being considered to foster greater involvement.
