The IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society (UFFC) proudly participated as a sponsor and exhibitor at the Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) Student Leadership Conference, held November 7–9, 2025, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The conference brought together top-performing electrical and computer engineering students from across the country for a weekend focused on leadership development, professional growth, and connection with IEEE societies and industry partners.

Building on UFFC’s long-standing commitment to student engagement, the Society hosted an outreach booth throughout the conference, introducing students to UFFC’s technical scope, conferences, publications, and leadership opportunities. Attendees had the chance to learn how UFFC supports cutting-edge work in ultrasonics, ferroelectrics, and frequency control—and how students can become involved through conferences, volunteer roles, and technical communities early in their careers.

A highlight of the weekend was the involvement of the University of Michigan IEEE UFFC Student Chapter, led by students from the Histotripsy Lab. With support from faculty and Society leadership, student volunteers staffed the UFFC booth, shared their own experiences within the Society, and helped convey what makes UFFC a unique and welcoming professional home for emerging engineers and researchers. Their peer-to-peer engagement sparked strong interest and enthusiasm among conference participants.

In addition, select attendees had the opportunity to tour a University of Michigan ultrasonics laboratory, offering an up-close look at real-world research and applications in the field. The lab visit provided valuable context for students exploring career paths in academia, industry, and research—and reinforced how UFFC’s technical areas translate into impactful technologies.

UFFC’s participation in the HKN Student Leadership Conference reflects the Society’s broader goal of strengthening its pipeline of student and young professional members by meeting them where they are, showcasing real research environments, and highlighting leadership pathways within IEEE. The Society extends its sincere thanks to the University of Michigan hosts, student volunteers, and IEEE-HKN organizers for making the event a success.

We look forward to continuing to engage with these future leaders and welcoming many of them into the UFFC community in the years ahead.
