Registration is open until 30 June for the BIPM–COOMET UTC Summer School 2026, a three-day training program focused on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), national time-scale generation, and time and frequency metrology. The event will take place 28–30 September 2026 at the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology (UzNIM) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Organized by the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM), UzNIM, and COOMET, the summer school is part of the Consultative Committee for Time and Frequency (CCTF) capacity-building program, which supports the development of national timing infrastructure through resource sharing and technical training.

The program is designed for engineers, scientists, and technical staff working in time laboratories who are either new to UTC operations or actively involved in maintaining national time scales. Participants will receive tutorial instruction and practical training covering:

  • UTC and UTC(k)

  • GNSS time transfer techniques
  • Atomic clocks
  • Clock data analysis
  • Generation and operation of national time scales

The course will be delivered by experts from the BIPM and the regional metrology community. English–Russian interpretation will be available throughout the program.

Registration is free of charge and open to professionals working in timekeeping and related fields. Participation is limited to 20 attendees, with priority given to applicants from the COOMET region. Travel assistance may be available for participants with demonstrated financial need whose work is directly related to national timekeeping activities.

The IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society (UFFC-S) is pleased to sponsor student participation in this important educational initiative, supporting the next generation of researchers and practitioners in time and frequency science.

Institutes and professionals involved in time and frequency metrology are encouraged to apply and contribute to strengthening UTC capabilities across the COOMET region and beyond.

Date: 28–30 September 2026
