A Pivotal Year for UFFC Publications

After the end of 2025, our Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control (T-UFFC), edited by Alfred Yu, University of Waterloo, will change its name to IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics (T-USON) and slightly refine its scope to better reflect its dominant content. This decision follows society-wide consultation, with the goal of making the publication more visible to researchers and industry professionals in ultrasonic research. T-USON will continue to cover all aspects of ultrasound science and technology, including wave generation, transmission, and detection; biomedical and industrial applications; and advances in piezoelectrics, transducers, resonators, oscillators, and sensors. Of course, these topics include related work in frequency control and ferroelectrics.

The journal has significantly strengthened its impact in recent years (current IF: 3.7; CiteScore: 7.7). You may wonder how the name change will affect these metrics. The newly named journal will start 2026 with the current IF, and future impact factors will be calculated based on citations from the previous two years. As long as scientific and editorial quality is maintained, we expect a stable or even stronger IF for T-USON moving forward.
 

The name change and scope adjustment of the Transactions also aim to support the growth of our open-access journal, OJ-UFFC, led by Editor-in-Chief Omer Oralkan, North Carolina State University. Thanks to strong editorial commitment and outstanding contributions, OJ-UFFC achieved an excellent first impact factor of 2.9 in June 2025, following its successful five-year review by the IEEE Periodicals Review and Advisory Committee.

With success comes responsibility. The journal can no longer waive Article Processing Charges (APCs). These fees are being phased in from October 1, 2025, and will reach full price by January 2027, as detailed on the journal’s website. APCs apply to both full articles and letters, which will remain part of the conference-to-letter track in 2026 to bring the most exciting research from our international conferences to readers.
 

OJ-UFFC is committed to providing a home for innovations in all UFFC-related fields. Toward this aim, the ongoing Deputy Editor search (open until early January) seeks motivated leaders to promote publications from Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control technical areas. You may also have seen the call for Associate Editors for OJ-UFFC. As submissions grow, the journal will need more AEs across all UFFC disciplines.
