Body

Founded in 2017, the IEEE-UFFC Student Chapter at the University of Michigan serves as a focal point for graduate and undergraduate students with an interest in ultrasonics. It seeks to foster inter-laboratory and interdisciplinary interaction within the UM ultrasound community and facilitate engagement with the broader ultrasound community at other institutions and in industry. The organization currently has 8 graduate student members and hopes to recruit undergraduate and additional graduate students this fall. The research interests of our current members primarily center on the development and application of histotripsy systems and ultrasound-mediated drug delivery. This encompasses transducer design and fabrication, cavitation bubble dynamics, fluorocarbon chemistry as well as associated noninvasive clinical applications which include atrial septum perforation for congenital heart disease, thrombolysis, large-volume liver tumors, brain tumors, intracerebral hemorrhage, and prenatal surgery.
