Awards were announced this week on the joint ISAF-ISIF-PFM meeting.

IEEE UFFC Awards

[mks_col] [mks_one_third]   [/mks_one_third] [mks_two_thirds]The IEEE UFFC Achievement Award is the highest Society-wide award in special recognition of outstanding contributions, such as significant technical publications in the field of ultrasonics, ferroelectrics, or frequency control, as well as contributions to these technical fields, and service to the Society. The 2020 recipient is Takaaki Tsurumi, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. He receives the award “for significant technical contributions and leadership in the areas of ferroelectric ceramics and fundamental studies and development of new capacitors”.[/mks_two_thirds] [/mks_col]   [mks_col] [mks_one_third]   [/mks_one_third] [mks_two_thirds]The Distinguished Service Award recognizes long-term support of the Society’s activities, e.g. by innovation of new Society programs, administration of major Committees, management of Society functions, or promotion of the Society’s areas of technical interest to the larger community. The 2020 award is given to Dragan Damjanovic, EPFL, Switzerland “for diverse contributions and sustained commitment to the UFFC community, including scientific leadership and organizational management”.[/mks_two_thirds] [/mks_col]

Ferroelectrics Awards

[mks_col] [mks_one_third][/mks_one_third] [mks_two_thirds]The Ferroelectrics Young Investigator Award recognizes the achievements of University, Industrial, or Laboratory researchers in ferroelectric materials and applications in the early stages of their career. The recipient of the 2021 award is Pavlo Zubko, University College London, UK. He is recognized “for his outstanding contributions to the experimental physics of ferroelectric superlattices, negative capacitance in ferroelectrics and flerroelectricity”.[/mks_two_thirds] [/mks_col] [mks_col] [mks_one_third] [/mks_one_third] [mks_two_thirds]The Ferroelectrics Recognition Award honors members of the Society for outstanding achievements in their scientific work as well as in promoting the ferroelectrics community. This year it is given to Shujun Zhang, University of Wollongong, Australia, “for his outstanding contributions to our understanding of how the material design, fabrication and microstructure of dielectric and ferroelectric ceramics and single crystals affects their properties and applications”.[/mks_two_thirds] [/mks_col] [mks_col] [mks_one_third] [/mks_one_third] [mks_two_thirds]The Ferroelectrics Robert E. Newnham Achievement Award recognizes investigators that contributed significantly to the understanding of the structure-property relationships in dielectric, piezoelectric and ferroic materials. This years’ recipient is Ian Reaney, University of Sheffield, UK. He is recognized “for his outstanding contributions to our understanding of structure-property relationships in piezoelectric and microwave dielectric ceramics and the translation of this knowledge into practical applications”.[/mks_two_thirds] [/mks_col]

New Fellows Recognized

[mks_col] [mks_one_third] [/mks_one_third] [mks_two_thirds]   Shujun Zhang, University of Wollongong, Australia, became a 2021 IEEE Fellow “for contributions to the development of advanced piezoelectrics for transducers”.[/mks_two_thirds] [/mks_col] [mks_col] [mks_one_third][/mks_one_third] [mks_two_thirds] Hong Wang, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, China was welcomed as new IEEE Fellow,  “for development, integration, and commercialization of novel dielectric ceramics and composites for passive integration” [/mks_two_thirds] [/mks_col]

Distinguished Lecturer

[mks_col] [mks_one_third][/mks_one_third] [mks_two_thirds]The Distinguished Lecturer Award is bestowed to a UFFC-S member who will represent the society in the larger technical community through worldwide given lectures. Selection criteria include the prominence of the lecture topic, the speaking style and the willingness to commit the time and energy necessary for an international speaking series. The recipient of this award for 2021/2022 is Ahmad Safari, Rutgers University, USA. His topic is Advances in Development and Applications of Piezoelectric Materials. [/mks_two_thirds] [/mks_col]
