Help Us Create the UFFC Mascot for 2027

The IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society (UFFC) is launching a Mascot Design Competition to create a new society mascot that will represent UFFC beginning in 2027.
 
The mascot will help bring UFFC science and technology to life through educational videos, outreach activities, print materials, and society communications. Future renderings of the mascot may also include animations. We invite students, researchers, engineers, and artists in the UFFC community to submit a creative mascot design inspired by the Society’s three technical areas:
 
  • Ultrasonics
  • Ferroelectrics
  • Frequency Control
 
Three finalists will be selected, one representing each technical area, and the final mascot will be chosen by a vote of the UFFC community.

Competition Structure

Submissions will be grouped into the three UFFC technical areas:
 
  • Ultrasonics (IUS)
  • Ferroelectrics (ISAF)
  • Frequency Control (IFCS)
 
From each category, one finalist mascot will be selected.
The three finalists will then be presented to the UFFC membership for a society-wide vote to determine the official UFFC Mascot for 2027.

Grand Prize Winner

Two Finalists
$250 USD each
Recognition on the UFFC website and communications

Design Guidelines

Mascots should reflect the spirit of innovation, science, and creativity within the UFFC community.
Designers are encouraged to create a mascot that is:
 
  • Inspired by Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, or Frequency Control
  • Friendly, recognizable, and adaptable for educational content
  • Suitable for use in animations, graphics, print materials, and outreach videos
  • Original artwork created by the submitter
 
Examples could include characters inspired by waves, crystals, oscillators, sensors, clocks, or other scientific concepts related to UFFC research.

Submission Requirements

 
  • Submit your design through the UFFC online submission form.
  • File format: JPEG or PNG
  • Minimum resolution: 3000 pixels on the longest side at 300 dpi
  • Designs should be suitable for both digital and print use
  • Submissions must be original work
  • Designers may submit one mascot design per technical area.
  • Entries submitted via email will not be accepted.
 

Ownership

By submitting a design:
 
  • The submitter confirms the artwork is their original creation.
  • The IEEE UFFC Society will retain full rights to reproduce, modify, and use the winning design.
  • The winning mascot may be adapted for educational videos, graphics, print materials, animations, and outreach content.
 

Selection Criteria

Entries will be evaluated based on:
 
  • Creativity and originality
  • Relevance to UFFC technical fields
  • Visual appeal
  • Suitability for educational and outreach use
