Community, Connection & Engagement (CCE) Committee 2025: A Year of Growth, Strategy, and Impact

This past year represented a pivotal moment of strategic expansion and operational strengthening for the Community, Connection & Engagement (CCE) Committee. Guided by a vision to empower grassroots leadership, improve volunteer coordination, and enhance global engagement, the committee implemented several initiatives designed to create long-term stability and inclusivity across all levels of the UFFC society.

A cornerstone achievement was the approval of a new $10,000 annual funding allocation dedicated to supporting Chapter-led local events. This initiative ensures that two large Chapter proposals each year receive $5,000 in fixed funding, providing a predictable and transparent framework for planning impactful regional programs. This approach not only streamlines the proposal and budgeting process but also enables Chapters to design ambitious events—such as the Seattle Chapter’s upcoming Student AI Competition—with confidence in the society’s continued support.

Recognizing that in-person engagement remains vital to collaboration and continuity, the CCE also proposed the creation of a dedicated travel budget. This motion ensures that essential representatives—such as the Student Advisor and Volunteer Engagement Chair—can attend all three annual symposia (IFCSISAF, and IUS) to provide consistent, on-site coordination and member support. Approval of this motion marks a major advancement in guaranteeing reliable representation and hands-on assistance for students, industry partners, and volunteers worldwide.

Strategic Integration: Building a Unified Engagement Ecosystem

A defining milestone of 2025 was the full consolidation of all seven engagement-related sub-committees under the CCE umbrella, creating a cohesive structure that encourages cross-committee collaborationstrategic alignment, and streamlined planning across all symposia.

This integration allows for previously independent committees—spanning students, industry, collaboration and engagement, volunteers, chapters, outreach, and professional development—to operate within one unified vertical. The result is greater synergy, reduced duplication of effort, and consistent programming across the society’s flagship events.

By aligning objectives, sharing resources, and coordinating timelines, CCE ensures that initiatives such as student programs, industry showcases, inclusion events, and volunteer recruitment efforts complement one another rather than compete for bandwidth or visibility. The unified structure has also improved communication across leadership teams, enabling more coherent event planning for IFCSISAF, and IUS, as well as enhanced continuity between in-person and online initiatives.

As the committee moves into 2026, CCE will continue refining this structure, working closely with all sub-committees to build stronger linkages, increase efficiency, and amplify the society’s collective impact. The long-term goal is to create an engagement ecosystem where every sub-committee contributes to a shared vision of connection, collaboration, and excellence.

Highlights of the CCE Sub-Committees

🎓 Student Representatives

The Student Representatives delivered a dynamic and comprehensive portfolio of activities across all three major symposia. Each event calendar featured:

  • Student Socials that fostered community building and peer connection.

  • Student Pitch Competitions, offering prizes and recognition for top innovations.

  • Student-Industry Networking Events and Career Lunches, which facilitated direct mentorship and career exploration.

Beyond event execution, the student team made major progress toward establishing student-led technical committees composed of their peers within each of the society’s focus areas. These committees aim to cultivate leadership experience among students and strengthen links between academic research and industry applications. Recruitment efforts expanded substantially, resulting in new student volunteers joining the engagement network throughout the year.

🏭 Industry Engagement Committee (IEC)

The IEC continued to drive collaboration between academia, research, and industry. In partnership with the Student Representatives, it co-sponsored several career and networking events, creating stronger bridges between emerging engineers and professionals.

Looking ahead to IUS 2026 the IEC is developing a high-visibility Demo and Product Showcase—anticipated to attract 70–100 participants—as well as an Industry Roundtable Luncheon to promote dialogue among industry leaders and innovators. Beyond symposia, the committee is also laying the groundwork for two new initiatives:

  • “Transition in Industry” event supporting members moving from academia to industrial careers.

  • CCE Webinar Series, offering year-round virtual engagement and professional development opportunities.

🤝 Collaboration & Engagement (CE) Committee

The CE sub-committee focused on enhancing inclusion, collaboration, and visibility across the society. In partnership with Women in Engineering (WIE), CE successfully organized two impactful joint events at ISAF 2025:

  • Joint Poster Session that celebrated diverse research perspectives and highlighted contributions from underrepresented groups.

  • Roundtable Discussion addressing key themes in inclusion, equity, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

These sessions generated vibrant discussions and new ideas for future initiatives, reinforcing CCE’s commitment to creating spaces where all members feel empowered to participate and lead.

💼 Volunteer Engagement Committee (VEC)

The VEC made significant progress in professionalizing volunteer management. The committee refined its screening and onboarding processes to ensure that volunteers are effectively matched with roles that fit their skills and interests.

To strengthen outreach, the VEC proposed a dedicated recruitment booth at all future symposia, designed to welcome new members, connect with transitioning professionals, and engage Young Professionals entering the society. This initiative aims to establish a continuous, sustainable pipeline of active volunteers, ensuring that institutional knowledge and leadership continuity remain strong for years to come.

Looking Forward

The collective achievements of 2025 reflect a year defined by strategic alignment, operational clarity, and global engagement. Through standardized financial support, reliable in-person coordination, and the unification of all seven engagement sub-committees, the CCE has created a foundation that enables stronger collaboration, greater efficiency, and sustained global impact.

As the committee looks toward 2026, it will continue to refine this integrated model—strengthening communication between sub-committees, expanding cross-functional programs, and supporting a broader community of students, professionals, and volunteers.

Together, these efforts ensure that the society’s mission—to connect, engage, and elevate—continues to thrive and evolve in the years ahead.

Shorter version

Community, Connection & Engagement (CCE) Committee 2025: Strengthening Collaboration and Impact

The CCE Committee marked 2025 as a year of strategic progress and operational cohesion, focusing on empowering grassroots initiatives, standardizing support, and improving volunteer coordination. A major milestone was the approval of $10,000 in new annual funding to support two large Chapter-led local events ($5,000 each), ensuring predictable financial backing for impactful regional activities. In addition, the committee proposed a dedicated travel budget to guarantee consistent on-site representation—such as the Student Advisor and Volunteer Engagement Chair—across all three annual symposia (IFCS, ISAF, and IUS).

Bringing all seven engagement-related sub-committees under the CCE structure has created a unified, streamlined framework that enhances cross-committee collaboration and alignment across the society. This integrated model enables stronger coordination of student, industry, inclusion, and volunteer activities at every symposium, reducing overlap and amplifying collective visibility and impact.

Across 2025, the sub-committees delivered a robust portfolio of programs—from student social and career networking events to industry showcases and inclusion-focused sessions—demonstrating the value of coordinated, in-person engagement. Looking ahead to 2026, the CCE aims to further strengthen this integrated ecosystem, fostering even greater connection, collaboration, and engagement across the global community.
