Jiangyu Li is the Department Head and Chair Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Prior joining SUSTech, he was a Professor at the University of Washington from 2006 to 2019. Jiangyu graduated from Tsinghua in 1994, and obtained his Ph.D. from CU-Boulder in 1998. After completing two postdoctoral studies as UCSD and Caltech, Jiangyu started his independent academic career as an Assistant Professor at UNL in 2001. Jiangyu works on mechanics of ferroelectric materials and structures, developing mesoscopic modeling as well as the scanning probe microscopy techniques to connecting their microstructure and macroscopic properties. He has published over 300 articles in the field, cited over 16000 times, and won a number of awards from ASME, ICCES, and Microscopy Today. He is an Associate Editor of Journal of Applied Physics, and serves on the International Piezoresonse Force Microscopy Advisory Board.
