Greetings on behalf of the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society (UFFC-S) and welcome to our website. We hope you will find this website informative and will take advantage of the educational, professional, and social resources it makes available on the major topics spearheaded by our society, which include
- The generation, transmission, and detection of ultrasonic waves and related phenomena.
- Medical ultrasound and associated technologies.
- Ferroelectric, piezoelectric, and piezomagnetic materials.
- Frequency generation and control, timing, and time coordination and distribution.
Among the more useful resources you will find is information on the three annual symposia sponsored and organized the UFFC Society:
These symposia provide venues for dissemination of research, products, and education in their respective topical areas via oral and poster presentations, exhibits, and proceedings papers, which are published and made accessible via IEEE Xplore. The symposia provide opportunities for face-to-face networking and cross-fertilization of ideas over a backdrop of social and professional environments in locations that rotate around the world. The three symposia are well-attended by both members and non-members.
The wealth of information generated by the UFFC-S is also well captured in archival journal articles published in the IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control (TUFFC)—the premier journal on these topics. To get a better sense and understanding of the topical areas in our society, we encourage newcomers (and veterans alike) to access the educational and tutorial articles displayed in the various links to Learning Resources, Software, Review Papers, Tutorials, and Books on this website, which we provide free for all to view. To sample the much larger trove of archival papers generated by the society, please head over to IEEE Xplore.
To complement its charter to disseminate knowledge on its technical fields of interest, the UFFC-S also develops standards, supports related chapters across the world, and sponsors educational programs. The society additionally bestows a number of awards annually to recognize contributions to its technical areas or services from distinguished individuals. In particular, the three Distinguished Lecturer Awards sponsored by the UFFC-S in each of its three technical areas provide the honor and means for winners to deliver technical presentations at venues around the world.
For news and updates on the latest society developments, we encourage you to go to the News Column on the Homepage of this website, where you’ll see photos and articles describing events that occurred, e.g., during the latest symposium, the latest distinguished lecture, a recent educational activity, etc.
The IEEE is the largest technical society in the world, consisting of more than 40 societies and councils (of which the UFFC is but one) with an overall membership over 400,000. The UFFC society has more than 2,000 members and is governed by an Administrative Committee (AdCom) that operates according to its Constitution and Bylaws and holds two meetings per year with minutes summarized on our webpage.
The UFFC-S is a volunteer-based society that continues to attract volunteers to participate in its governance, symposia, and publications. If you are not already a UFFC-S member, we encourage you to join us and help foster even more activity and collaboration pertinent to your own focus in ultrasonics, ferroelectrics, and frequency control.
