Networking & Mentorship Program: New Workshops Announcement

IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Members,

We are excited to continue the UFFC-S Networking & Mentorship Program into its second year, as we welcome 166 participants in 83 mentor-mentee pairs and a lineup of excellent speakers. This second term started in November 2021 with the first of five dynamic online workshops, kick-started by author Alaina Levine speaking on "How to Apply for and Start a New Job".

We invite you to join for us for the second workshop on 23 January 2022 at 10:00-11:30 AM EST (UTC -5:00) to meet Ghina Halabi, Founder and Executive Director of She Speaks Science, as she presents "How to use Storytelling to Communicate with Clarity and Confidence".

The third workshop of the session will be held on 27 February 2022 at 10:00-11:30 AM EST (UTC -5:00) and will feature Vinay Roy, Chief Product Officer at Vista Global, discussing "Framing a business problem as a Machine Learning problem" and "Growth hacking your career". We look forward to seeing you there!

Registration for these workshops is completely free and will be limited to the first 300 attendees. UFFC-S Professional Networking & Mentoring Program participants will receive priority entry.

Speaker: Ghina Halabi
"How to use Storytelling to Communicate with Clarity and Confidence"

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Ghina M. Halabi is an astrophysicist and social entrepreneur. Her work now lies at the intersection of science, entrepreneurship and education. She runs entrepreneurship development programs at Cambridge Judge Business School to help scientists commercialize their research. Independently, she consults for businesses to bring space science into high-end technology and coaches on innovation storytelling through workshops and executive training. She was the first person to gain a PhD in astrophysics from a Lebanese university, and she is a strong advocate for science communication. In 2018, she founded She Speaks Science, a multilingual enterprise to promote STEM and women in STEM, and is a mentor on the United Nations Space for Women Network.

Ghina is a public speaker at international conferences and global forums including UN Women, UNOOSA and TEDx and is frequently featured in mainstream media including the BBC.

“Intro to the Business of AI: Framing a Business Problem as a Machine Learning Problem”

Speaker Bio:
Vinay Roy is the Chief Product Officer at Vista Global, a global leader in private jet aviation offering asset-light services to cover all key aspects of private aviation: Guaranteed and On-Demand global flight coverage; aircraft leasing and finance; and advanced aviation technology. He leads a global organization of Product, Analytics, and Data Science. He is responsible for the product roadmap, Product Pricing, and Data science Model to grow demand and Flight operations for the two-sided marketplace of private jets. He is leading the digital transformation of private jet aviation space using various machine learning models for dynamic pricing engines, recommendation engines, and time series forecasting to enable business decisions. Prior to XO Global, he worked at Zeus Living, Apple, Qualcomm, and Nvidia. He has two patents in the field of Autonomous vehicle and P2P communication. He is also a lead instructor at UC Berkeley, ExecEd Program, where he teaches Machine learning, Business of Artificial Intelligence, Product Pricing, International Marketing, and Digital Transformation to global cohorts of business and technical executives.

In his spare time, he enjoys reading, teaching, and playing soccer. He is an MBA from Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley, and has a Masters in Computers & Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology, India.
