Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong (SAR), China
The IEEE UFFC-HK PolyU Student Branch is led by Professor Yongping Zheng and Dr. Cheng Liu. It provides a professional platform for students with backgrounds in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, applied physics and mechanical engineering. There are currently seven postgraduate research students in the IEEE UFFC-HK PolyU Student Branch. Their backgrounds include biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, applied physics and mechanical engineering, and are now all working on projects related to ultrasound. The following activities will be organized by the Chapter: Research seminars open to all students and staff working in related fields in PolyU and sister universities in Hong Kong will be organized. Social gatherings open to all student members, academia and relevant people industry will be held. Visits to local institutions and industries will be organized so that we can learn about new techniques and developments in our related areas.
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore The advisor of the IEEE-UFFC
Singapore Student Chapter is Prof. Kui Yao. The chapter has 15 graduate student members. The research topics of the students include piezoelectric materials, acoustic manipulation devices, acoustic imaging and photoacoustic imaging, as well as applications.
Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Shenzhen, China
The IEEE-UFFC Student Branch Chapter at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shenzhen, China was created on 29 September 2015. Professor Hairong Zheng, Student Chapter Advisor, and Professor Ming Qian lead 17 graduate student chapter members to enhance their horizons. Student research topics include acoustic manipulation devices, acoustic neuro-stimulation and the development of a deep brain stimulation and neural control device based on acoustic radiation.
Sogang University, Seoul, South Korea
The IEEE UFFC Student Branch Chapter at Sogang University (SGU), Seoul, South Korea was formed on 31 August 2016. Professor Jin-Ho Chang, UFFC-SGU student chapter advisor, and Dr. Tai-Kyong Song and Dr. Yangmo Yoo lead 19 graduate student chapter members. They help the students to grow into intellectuals with academic excellence and creativity. Our group members are conducting cutting-edge research about medical ultrasound imaging and therapeutic techniques. This includes high-performance ultrasound transducers and novel ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging systems. In addition, we are developing new digital signal and image processing algorithms to improve ultrasound and photoacoustic image quality.
University of Houston, Houston TX, USA
The IEEE UFFC Student Branch Chapter at the University of Houston (UH) was formed on 12 September 2014. The Chapter Advisor is Dr. Gangbing Song. The membership currently includes 13 graduate students. Related research and other activities are sponsored by the IEEE UFFC and the Smart Materials and Structures Laboratory (SMSL). The research scope in the UFFC at the UH Student Branch Chapter includes, but is not limited to: smart materials, controls, wave modeling, advanced sensing technologies, structural health monitoring, communication, and their applications in energy industries. Activities of the chapter include laboratory tours, symposia, seminars and group meetings. We also have outdoor activities.
University of Texas at San Antonio, USA
The IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society Student Branch at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) was formed on November 9th, 2016 and is advised by Dr. Amar Bhalla and Dr. Ruyan Guo. The chapter currently consists of 10 students, both graduate and undergraduate, interested in novel research and networking opportunities. The chapter members are currently performing research in areas such as millimeter wave applications, piezoelectric energy harvesting, 3D printing of electronic and magnetic materials, and multiferroic and magnetoelectric materials/devices.
Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), Xi’an, China
The IEEE UFFC Student Branch Chapter at Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), Xi’an, China, was formed on February 16th, 2016. Its advisor is Prof. Wei Ren and the Branch Chapter Chair is Mingmin Zhu. Our chapter is a student led organization that is designed to bring students together toward the common goals of camaraderie, intellectual and spiritual growth, and understanding of Electronic Science and Technology concepts through meetings, projects, and activities related to ferroelectric, piezoelectric, and piezomagnetic materials. We provide tutorials and projects for students to learn new skills from the faculty members and professionals in the field and apply what they have learned. We also host social events for people to meet other members and enjoy social interactions with fellow students. We believe that involvement in IEEE is a fantastic chance to meet motivated students with similar interests, learn and improve the technical skills, and help build a vibrant and exciting culture within the UFFC field.
