Waves and Transducers May 13 – 17, 2019 Shenzhen, China IEEE-UFFC-S Special-Topic School

Medical acoustical imaging is based on two fundamental pillars: waves and transducers. The waves are essential to probe the interior of the human body whereas the transducers are essential to generate and receive the acoustic waves. This topical school is built around those two pillars.

The lectures will cover topics related to wave propagation, materials and transducers. The course is primarily meant for PhD students and will be taught at an advanced physics and engineering level. By combining theory with simple hands-on practical work using computers, instrumentation and piezoelectric materials, you will gain significant understanding about the foundations of medical ultrasound and other related applications.

The course will be held at the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT), China from May 13 – 17, 2019. The lectures will be given by Dr. Koen W.A. van Dongen (Delft University of Technology), Dr. Weibao Qiu (Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology), Prof. Sandy Cochran (University of Glasgow) and Dr Holly S. Lay (FUJIFILM VisualSonics, Inc.)
